Play Euchre against the computer

How a game of Euchre against bots works here: seating them, what they can see, how they decide, and what they leave to you.

Two against two, with bots

Euchre is four players in two partnerships, partners opposite. Seats go in the order people sit down, so if you open a table and add three bots, the second bot you add is your partner.

In the lobby choose the target, 10 or 15 points, and what happens if nobody names trumps: throw the deal in, or stick the dealer and make them name a suit. Add bots until there are four, then start. Only the host can seat bots, and only before the first deal.

What a bot can see

Its own five cards, the turned-up card, the calls and the tricks as they are played. Hands are kept on the server, so no bot, not even your partner, can see what you hold.

Bots take about a second over each decision, so you can follow the round of passes before it reaches you.

How the bots name trumps

A bot counts its hand for each suit it could make trump: a trump is worth one, a bower one and a half, and an ace in another suit a half. If the best suit comes to three or more, it orders it up or names it. It goes alone only with a hand worth four and a half. When it counts the turned-up card, it counts it only if it is the dealer and the card will land in its own hand.

In the play it leads low, leaves a trick to its partner when the partner is already winning, and otherwise takes it with the cheapest card that does — reading the bowers correctly as trumps.

Playing with and against them

A bot's order is a sober count, so when your bot partner makes trump you can expect roughly three tricks' worth between two trumps and an ace or so. Support it, and do not overtake a trick it is already winning.

The bots do not count trumps as they fall or remember who was void. Once both bowers have been played the ace of trumps is the best card left, and the bots do not keep track of that — you should.

Bots and people together

To partner a friend against two bots, add one bot before your friend joins and the other after, so your friend sits third and opposite you. The lobby lists players in seat order.

After each hand everybody presses "Ready for the next hand". If a player leaves a bot takes their seat; if their connection drops it is held for twenty-five seconds and handed back when they return.
