What Schafkopf is
The everyday card game of Bavaria, played in every pub in the region. Four players, and the partnerships change with every hand. Thirty-two cards, fourteen trumps made of the overs, the unders and all the hearts, and eight tricks a hand. In the usual game you call an ace and whoever holds it becomes your secret partner; in a solo or a wenz you play alone against three. Taking 61 of the 120 card points wins, and stakes are settled in cents.
