What Belote is
France's most-played card game, and the evening game of much of the Mediterranean and the Balkans. Four players in partnerships. Thirty-two cards, a trump suit taken from a card turned face up, and a trump order in which the jack and the nine jump above the ace. Sequences and the king and queen of trump score extra, and the side that took trump must take more points than the other or lose everything. A game runs to 501 or 1000.
