A fast rummy for money, where a good enough deal wins on the spot.
A fast rummy for money, played in the American South and in card rooms everywhere. Short hands, quick settlement, and two ways to win before you have played a card.
A 52-card deck. Five cards each for three or more players, seven for two. One card turned up to start the discard pile.
Court cards 10, aces 1, number cards face value.
Tonk: a hand totalling exactly 49 or 50 wins immediately and pays double. A hand totalling 13 or less may be spread face up at once for an instant win, also paying double at most tables.
Sets of three or four of the same rank, and runs of three or more in the same suit.
Draw from the stock or take the top discard. Then either spread a meld, lay off onto a meld already on the table, or do neither. Then discard.
You may not take the discard unless you use it immediately.
At the start of your turn, before drawing, you may drop — lay your hand down and compare totals with everyone else.
Lowest total wins the pot. If someone has a lower total than the player who dropped, that player pays double and the low hand wins.
Shedding all your cards through melds and lay-offs also wins, and pays double.
Stakes are settled hand by hand, which is why the game suits a table where people come and go.
