How Sheepshead is played here
The rules this table deals by. Everybody at the table sees the same lines before the first hand.
- Thirty-two cards, six each and two face down. All four queens, then all four jacks, then the whole of diamonds are trump — fourteen of them. Diamonds is not a plain suit, and a queen of spades is not a spade.
- Going round once, each player may take the two face-down cards or pass. Whoever picks them up takes them into hand and buries two — and the points in the buried cards count for them at the end, so burying is banking rather than throwing away.
- The picker calls an ace of a plain suit they do not hold, and whoever holds it is their partner and says nothing until it is played. A picker holding every fail ace plays alone, and a picker who likes their hand may choose to.
- Settled in chips. The picker's side wins the base with 61, double with 91, and triple for every trick — and failing pays the same amounts out.
