How French tarot is played here
The rules this table deals by. Everybody at the table sees the same lines before the first hand.
- Seventy-eight cards: four suits of fourteen — ace to ten, then jack, knight, queen, king — plus twenty-one numbered trumps and the Excuse.
- The trump one, the trump twenty-one and the Excuse are the oudlers. How many the taker finishes with decides what they needed: 56 points with none, 51 with one, 41 with two, 36 with all three.
- The Excuse is not a trump and cannot win a trick. Play it and you keep it, handing a worthless card back to whoever did win.
- Six cards are set aside as the chien. A petite or a garde takes them into hand and puts the same number back; a garde sans or a garde contre never sees them.
How it works
- Open a table. It gets a short code of its own.
- Read the code out, or send the link. Anyone you send it to sits down as a guest, without an account.
- Deal once everyone is seated — or give each empty chair a bot and start now.
Questions about playing French tarot online
- How many can play French tarot online here?
- 4 to 5 at one table. A bot can take any seat nobody fills, so a game never has to wait for somebody to turn up.
- Can I play French tarot against the computer?
- Yes. Give any empty seat a bot and it plays like anyone else at the table, seeing only its own cards.
- Does it cost anything?
- No. Every table here is free, there are no ads, and nothing about you is sold or handed on.
- Do I need an account?
- Only to open a table. Joining one never needs an account — anyone you send the code to sits down as a guest.
- Does French tarot work on a phone?
- Yes. It runs in the browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer, and there is nothing to install.
