The first player puts one or more cards face down in the middle and announces them as aces. The next player must announce twos, the next threes, and so on up through kings and back round to aces.
You always announce the rank the sequence requires. What you actually put down is your own business — you may play one card and call it three aces, or play three genuine aces, or anything in between.
Any player may call cheat at any point after cards are laid. The cards just played are turned over:
If they were not what was announced, the liar picks up the whole pile. If they were exactly as announced, the challenger picks up the whole pile.
Either way the pile is cleared and play continues from the player after whoever collected it.
The first player to get rid of all their cards wins — but a player who goes out can still be challenged on their final play, and if caught they pick the pile up and are back in the game.
The game turns entirely on the fact that you can count. If you hold two kings yourself, someone claiming three of them is lying.
